Chanbara or Combat Kenjutsu is a full-contact activity, applying traditional and sword and weaponry techniques and drills with modern padded equipment to allow participants to enjoy the rigors of sparring at full speed without fear of pain or injury.
This relatively new art based on traditional Japanese weapons training, was established in 1969 by Tanabe Tetsundo, and is officially known as "Goshindo" meaning "The way of self-preservation".
Today Chanbara has a large following worldwide and has been adopted by the Japanese education system as a sports and physical development activity.
Our Chanbara classes are designed to bring out the best in each individual. Aimed not only to improve one's muscular strength, endurance and reflexes but also cultivating a sense of responsibility and boosting self-esteem and social awareness.
